People in India can receive a face mask in exchange for depositing a plastic bottle in a recycling kiosk at the Coimbatore Railway Station, according to a report in The Hindu. Or they can have their weight displayed.
A three-way partnership between Southern Railway, a kiosk manufacturer and a non-government organization has provided the machine. Once a user deposits a plastic bottle, the machine offers them a choice to get a face mask or to step on a pedal and have their weight displayed on an LED screen.
The machine, made by Drop n Draw, shreds the bottle and removes it from the machine to be used for making yarn.
The NGO, Ladies Circle India, sponsored the machine.
