What makes it special is the incentives it offers you to keep on recycling. When you have your phone number registered with Banlastic, each discarded item will give you credit rewards and more.

Homegrown conservation initiative Banlastic Egypt has just launched their plastic bottle recycling machine in Alexandria, or more specifically at Prism Coworking Space where they’re giving it a trial period amongst the public.

It’s kind of like a reverse vending machine, only instead of spewing out plastic bottles or soda cans, you toss them in through the hole and help keep Egypt cleaner and greener. What makes it special is the incentives it offers you to keep on recycling. When you have your phone number registered with Banlastic, each discarded item will give you credit rewards and possibly more.

Falling in line with Egypt’s rapid move towards a more sustainable future, this form of on-the-go environmental damage control is precisely needed. With the country having already interspersed sustainable infrastructure (on a macroscopic scale) throughout the country, including the greenification of Sharm El Sheikh in anticipation of COP27 and the implementation of a bike sharing service in Cairo, this move - in all its demurity - is the perfect dip into the pond of microscopic green endeavours.
