LOCK HAVEN — Those working the polls during the Nov. 8 General Election will receive extra compensation.

The Clinton County Board of Commissioners approved a pay hike for all its poll workers during its voting session Thursday morning.

The pay increases will be pulled from an election integrity grant awarded to the county through the Department of Community and Economic Development.

Commissioner Jeff Snyder noted this is the first time the county has raised its rates since 2003.

The following increases were approved:

— $50 increase for election workers from $145 to $195 per day.

— $50 increase for Judge of Elections from $150 to $200 per day.

— $20 for attendance at Poll Worker Training session.

— $15 for Election Worker returning results.

According to Maria Boileau, voter registrar, the county has 34 judges of election, 34 majority inspectors, 34 minority inspectors and 75 clerks.

“We can always use a few more people,” Boileau noted.

Anyone who may be interested in becoming a poll worker can contact the voter registration office at 570-893-4019.

“We will provide an application form and training session information,” she said.

Training is currently underway, with the commissioners holding their voting session in the first floor conference room instead of the second floor meeting room of the Piper Building.

According to Boileau, poll workers are typically placed within their voting precinct.

“If we have enough poll workers in a precinct, we keep a backup list for emergencies and future elections,” she said.

Those interested in voting in the upcoming election must register or update their voter registration by 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24.

The last day to apply for a mail-in or absentee ballot is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Voted ballots must be received at the county election office by 8 p.m. on Nov. 8.

Boileau said her office has been keeping busy as they continue to prepare for the election.

In other business, the commissioners:

— Rejected a bid for a repository property at 219 6th St., Renovo. According to Chair Miles Kessinger, the buyer failed to include the payment required for the cost of $520.

— Approved a contract for professional services with Johanna M. Berta, Esquire, for legal services in connection with the Bald Eagle Valley Trail for $75 per hour. Kessinger said the county’s solicitor, Larry Coploff, will have a few conflicts of interest regarding upcoming items surrounding the trail.

— Approved the purchase of a new Copystar full color printer/copier/scanner/fax machine for the district attorney’s office and victim witness offices for $10,340.12 from Willits Copier, Inc. The county also entered into a maintenance agreement with Willits for $79.35 per month. Both costs are paid for through the victim/witness funding.

— Approved a five-year lease with Leaf for a new Copystar color print/copier for Children and Youth Special Services Departments for $107.85 per month. A separate maintenance agreement with Willits Copier for maintenance at a cost of $11 per month.

— Approved a facilities use agreement with Lock Haven University (Commonwealth University-Lock Haven) for use of the pool for Reach Out Mentor Program (ROMP) events.

— Appointed Dan Vilello to the Clinton County Solid Waste Authority for the remainder of Ernest Peterson’s term, ending Jan. 1, 2027.

— Appointed James Miller to the Clinton County Recreation Authority for the remainder of Lynn Hakin’s term, ending Dec. 31, 2024.

— Transferred Hope Mitchell from Family Group Decision Making Coordinator to Independent Living Coordinator in Children and Youth Services. The shift does not include a salary change and was effective Oct. 10.

The board will hold its next voting session at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, with a work session scheduled for Monday, Oct. 17, at 9 a.m.
