The company has partnered with Columbia Packaging Group to manufacture PHA straws in Southern California using Danimer Scientific’s Nodax PHA. Three industry leaders have joined hands to launch the first completely plant-based straws that will never get wet, fall apart or transfer flavor, thus completely changing the market. In cooperation with Columbia Packaging, BeyondGREEN will be able to meet the national demand for Nodax PHA straws, which are produced in the most advanced manufacturing plants in Southern California.
Danimer Scientific's Nodax PHA-based resins are specifically designed for extrusion applications and are produced using Danimer's proprietary reactive extrusion process. The resin is suitable for a series of profile extrusion applications, such as Columbia and BeyondGREEN for the purpose of using it; PHA straws. Nodax PHA complies with TUV standards for home and industrial compostability and marine and soil biodegradability.
Using Danimer Scientific's proprietary Nodax PHA, the three parties will work to provide the country's first truly plant-based Nodax PHA straw.

What is the difference between PHA and traditional plastic?
The difference between PHA and traditional plastics is simple. One is harmful to the environment, while the other is not. When bacteria are present, Danimer Scientific's Nodax™ (PHA) material will degrade. (source). Bacteria present in soil, fresh water, marine environment, and aerobic/anaerobic composting environment (whether domestic or industrial) are sufficient to completely decompose PHA straw.
This is a substitute for harmful disposable plastic straws that society has been looking for.
